Students in blazers walkingThose Young Men in Blazers

Perhaps you see them--young men in blue blazers streaming through Ohio City, over the Detroit-Superior Bridge and through downtown Cleveland. Every year new students at Saint Ignatius High School make the 2-mile walk from campus to the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist as part of the annual celebration of the Mass of the Holy Spirit. The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a longstanding tradition at Jesuit schools across the globe that kicks off a new school year, and for decades freshmen have made the journey to the cathedral on foot, guided by faculty and staff. This year, Fr. Ray Guiao, S.J. '82 was affirmed by the Midwest province of the Society of Jesus as President of Saint Ignatius, and 28 new faculty and staff were commissioned by Most Rev. Richard Lennon, Bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland.

Welcome! Bienvenidos! Vítáme vás! Fáilte! Witam CiÄ™! Willkommen!

Saint Ignatius High School is blessed to live in such a culturally rich and diverse community.  We welcome you and the opportunity to continually improve our relationship with all of our neighbors. Ohio City is a great place to work and live. Our neighbors have much to teach us and our students.  In turn, our mission obliges us to try and enrich the neighborhood in which we work and live.

The Constitutional Documents of the Society of Jesus require us to consider the "local socioeconomic needs of our surrounding community."  We are to be, "A platform reaching out into the community. . . also to the poor and socially disadvantaged in the neighborhood."  We are to labor with and for others to build a more just world.  This is the noble enterprise we are privileged to share with you, our friends and neighbors.

Please consider the information you find here as an invitation to join with us in dialogue, in learning together and in having fun together.
